| Summary: | A shared aperture antenna, capable of operating in both sub-6 GHz and millimeter-wave bands, is presented for use in mobile and wireless communication gadgets. The integrated antenna design comprises slot, dipole, and tapered slot antennas. The design operates at frequencies of 1.8 GHz, 3.6 GHz, and 5.2 GHz in the sub-6 GHz bands, as well as at 28 GHz in the millimeter-wave bands. The design incorporates a modified balun that includes a tapered slot and microstrip line. The tapered slot serves a dual role as both a feeding element for the dipole at 3.6 GHz and a radiating element at 28 GHz. Therefore, it is a unique design that provides a significantly high frequency ratio. Moreover, the dipole has a second use as its arms function as an antenna footprint for two tapered slot millimeter-wave arrays, which likewise operate at a frequency of 28 GHz. The tapered slot and two tapered slot millimeter-wave arrays are specifically built and tuned to ensure that the main beams are directed towards three distinct directions. This configuration allows the design to encompass a range of 120 degrees in the ?-direction inside the 28 GHz frequency bands. A MIMO arrangement is also presented for utilization in portable wireless devices. |
