| الملخص: | <p dir="ltr">Abstract: In the current publication landscape, research integrity is a concept in constant evolution, adapting the changes publication process and emerging technology adoptions. This evolution is not merely a response to the challenges posed by technologies but also an essential proactive effort to maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct in research and publishing. The rising frequency of academic dishonesty and attributed retraction is alarming and often occurs due to fraud activity, fabrication, duplicate publication, and self-plagiarism (Steen, Casadevall & Fang, 2016). Beside publishers and peer reviewers, the Office of Research Integrity and ethics boards play a crucial role in upholding the integrity of research publications. A study exploring retraction in Arab region unveiled a concerning trend, with an average retraction of 0.17%, surpasses the global average ( AlRyalat and Azzam, 2020). This alarming rate indicates the significance of the issue, emphasizing that duplication, fabrication, and plagiarism are the most common reasons behind such occurrences. The current paper aims to explore the landscape of research integrity and research ethic publications from the Gulf Cooperation Council through a comprehensive literature review. A systematic search has been conducted in online databases Scopus, Web of Science, JSTOR, PubMed, Academic Search Complete, Arab Research World, and Education Research Complete. The search employed combination of keywords including research integrity, research ethics, misconduct, unethical, combined with GCC, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman. The search was limited to records published after the year 2000 and the search was recently updated in August 2023. A total of 260 records were identified in the literature search and de-duplication resulted in 213 records. After applying eligibility criteria, nine records were included in the final analysis. The records included in the study thoroughly examine and analyze the realms of research integrity and ethical practices in academic publishing. Of the included records, most studies were discussing research integrity practices and regulation in Saudi Arabia. The findings from the study reaffirm some of the common unethical research activities such as plagiarism, honorary authorship, scientific misconduct, and data falsification. The findings also pointed out some of the significant research integrity activities including regulatory amendment, research integrity education, role of biomedical establishment, and research ethics governance from the GCC region. Few studies delved into evaluating students' and faculty’s perceptions of ethical research conduct, shedding light on the effectiveness of national and organizational initiatives. Further, Silverman (2017) critically examines the spectrum of regulatory frameworks in the region highlighting the lack of robust systems in some countries. One of the most significant limitations is that non-English publications were not included in the analysis.
