| Summary: |
This conference contribution was presented by Ana Maria Diez De Fex. UNAD (International Conference on Debate and Dialogue. An Initiative of QatarDebate 2025).

This research investigates the impact of generative AI tools on the development of philosophical argumentation and expert intuition among undergraduate students familiar with debate practices. Grounded in Hubert Dreyfus’ phenomenological critique of AI—which emphasizes the importance of embodied experience and intuitive understanding in human cognition—the study explores how AI-generated content influences students' ability to independently construct and evaluate philosophical arguments. Using a mixed-method design that integrates phenomenological analysis with empirical data collection, the research examines the experiences of students who regularly use tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude in academic argumentation tasks. The findings reveal a tension between the instrumental benefits of AI—such as improving structure and clarity—and concerns about overreliance, creativity, and intellectual autonomy. By engaging with Dreyfus' concept of expert intuition, the study contributes to ongoing discussions about the role of AI in philosophical education, offering critical insights into how digital tools are reshaping the development of reasoning and debate in the age of artificial intelligence.

Other Information

Conference information: The 2nd International Conference on Debate & Dialogue : An Initiative of QatarDebate (19 - 20 May 2025, Qatar National Conventions Center - QNCC, Doha - Qatar)
License: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

See the conference information on the organizer's website: https://qatardebate.org/programs/academic-programs/2nd-icdd/
|
