| description |
Research today cannot take place without Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI): the software, data, compute facilities, and people with necessary expertise. DRI is critical to every domain, and is the glue enabling inter- and multi-disciplinary research, with research software engineering as a key enabling component of DRI. However, there are still barriers to broadening engagement with new users and communities. Recent work shows that, despite growth in the use of DRI in all research communities, lack of time and resources makes it hard for those involved in research to understand how to best make use of DRI capabilities to enhance their research processes and outputs, even if training is available. In the “DRI-focussed training for research facilitators and teams (DRIFT)” project we aim to address this by: training the research facilitators working within these communities, training research teams in skills that benefit collaboration, team science, and inter- / multi-disciplinary working, and community engagement with a wider range of research institutions and disciplines.

In this presentation, we provide a brief summary of our work to define the different aspects of the role of a research facilitator, with the aim of getting feedback from the SC community, and highlighting what we hope to achieve by defining the Research Facilitator role.
|
