Description
Summary:
The study evaluated the relationship between anthropometric, clinical, and inflammatory variables and cardiovascular risk in premenopausal and postmenopausal women from three university institutions in Colombia. In a sample of 213 participants, anthropometric parameters, IL-6 levels, and biochemical biomarkers were measured. In postmenopausal women, a significant correlation was identified between BMI and triglyceride and glucose levels, while in premenopausal women, IL-6 was positively associated with LDL-C, triglycerides, and glucose, and negatively associated with HDL-C; this same negative correlation with HDL-C was also found in postmenopausal women. Furthermore, in the latter group, IL-6 correlated with age. The findings suggest that cardiovascular risk in both groups is influenced by inflammatory status and glycemic control, although further studies are needed to understand the modulatory role of IL-6 on lipoproteins.
