Spearman rank correlation coefficients between (1) Likert-scale responses to survey items and participant attributes, and (2) odds ratios from a binary logistic regression. For the odds ratio (OR), we collapsed the Likert scale by grouping together “Strongly Agree” and “Agree” and grouping together “Strongly Disagree,” “Disagree,” and “Neither Agree nor Disagree”. Ideology uses a binary measure of Liberals or Conservatives, <i><i>N</i></i> = 669. We controlled for demographic traits using the normalization procedure recommended by Gelman [44]. In the logistic regression, education was imputed as the number of years needed to complete the degree corresponding to the qualitative response, and income was imputed as the mean income within the income bracket.
