Thesis advisor is Dr. Sameh El-Sayegh and thesis co-advisor is Dr. Abdulrahim Shamayleh. Soft copy is available (Thesis, Completion Certificate, Approval Signatures, and AUS Archives Consent Form). The construction industry is considered the largest in the global economy. It is a very complex and dynamic industry. Yet, it has been noticed to be one of the least productive sectors, which suffers from various problems. Despite the rapid technology adoption across other sectors in the world, the construction industry remains amongst the laggards in digitalization. To improve transparency and trust between project participants, and minimize the fragmentation impact of the construction industry, Blockchain Technology (BCT) can be used. BCT has the enormous potential to overcome many of the construction industry problems and reduce human error prone. There is a noticeable research gap about BCT in the construction industry that took place since the first research paper shedding light on BCT in the construction industry was published in 2017, and till 2022, very limited papers are covering this topic. No research was found to be conducted till December 2022 to study BCT in the United Arab Emirates construction industry. This research work is concerned with identifying and ranking the benefits of BCT, evaluating the use of the potential applications of BCT in the United Arab Emirates construction industry, and finally prioritizing the challenges of implementing BCT in the context of the United Arab Emirates, using Best Worst Method (BWM) for analysis. Structured interviews took place with 16 participants who are experts in the construction industry, and familiar with blockchain technology. The obtained results suggest “persistency” is the most significant, and “privacy” is the least significant benefit of blockchain technology in the UAE construction industry. Similarly, the applications of blockchain in the construction supply chain are the most practical and building information modeling (BIM) applications are the least practical in the UAE construction industry. Finally, it was found that the most significant challenge is the Cultural and social Challenges, while the least significant is the technical challenges.College of EngineeringMultidisciplinary ProgramsMaster of Science in Construction Management (MSCM)El-Sayegh, SamehShamayleh, Abdulrahim2023-08-29T05:40:26Z2023-08-29T05:40:26Z2023-04info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisapplication/pdf35.232-2023.04http://hdl.handle.net/11073/25305en_USoai:repository.aus.edu:11073/253052026-04-30T09:14:44Z
