This intended meaning transcends what the equivalent word in the target language denotes in a literal sense. Skopos theory provides a language to explain decisions made by the translator to justify the reasoning for selecting one word over another, based on its function, coherence, and fidelity to the source text. This thesis illustrates such reasoning through a translation from Arabic into English, along with a commentary on a chapter titled ﺛﻘﺎﻓﺔاﻟﺼﻮرة – “The Culture of the Image” from the Saudi cultural critic Abdullah Al Ghathami’s book اﻟﺜﻘﺎﻓﺔاﻟﺘﻠﻔﺰﯾﻮﻧﯿﺔ - Television Culture (2005).
