الملخص:Autonomous Weapon Systems (AWS) have been a topic of discussion for many years in academic, legal, and military circles. These systems, which are capable of performing tasks without human intervention, have the potential to revolutionize the way wars are fought and make significant impact on international security. However, there are also significant legal, ethical, and moral concerns about the development and deployment of AWS. This thesis aims to examine the challenges these systems present in the application of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution in international and non-international armed conflicts. It will explore the current state of regulation of AWS in the context of IHL, and proposed future regulations for AWS under IHL. The thesis concludes that applying currently existing limits on novel weapons development is sufficient to address the challenges faced by AWS, while also working on a minimalist framework for the future, if and when technology advances in a way that makes the full potential of these weapons a reality.
