| الملخص: | This paper aims to study the cost effectiveness of teledentistry in dental treatment planning in pediatric care in the UAE compared to face-to-face consultations, and to describe its impact on the different stakeholders involved in this niche product. A mixed methodology was used combining a quantitative analysis through a questionnaire conducted among 97 national children’s guardians, and a qualitative analysis based on open ended questions with a Thiqa representative. The results were evaluated in three stages taking into consideration the different stakeholders involved. From the dental clinic’s perspective, the project is financially acceptable, and is characterized by a NPV of 1,266,998 AED, an internal rate of return of 92%, and a payback period of 3 years. The teledentistry intervention is not cost efficient from the National Insurance perspective compared with a conventional consultation, where an additional cost of 59AED per point of increase in sensitivity in treatment planning was calculated. From the guardians’ perspective, the teledentistry intervention is cost efficient for 2.27% of the population surpassing by 1.27% of the population need to operate the application in full capacity. A double blind Randomized Controlled Trial is recommended to support the findings. |
