Soluble plantain NSP increases the transmucosal short circuit current of <i>ex vivo</i> human ileal follicle-associated epithelium. by Bryony N. Parsons (469436)

    Published 2014
“…<p>Plantain NSP (5 mg/mL) significantly increased (<b>A</b>) transmucosal short circuit current (<i>Isc</i>), with a concomitant decrease in (<b>B</b>) epithelial potential difference (PD, apical-side negative), during pre-treatment of, and blockade of translocation of S. …”

Summary of anxiogenic and anxiolytic modulation of adult zebrafish behavior in standard 6-min novel tank test (see Fig. S1 in Supplementary Materials for raw data from these experi... by Jonathan Cachat (377024)

    Published 2011
“…Reference anxiolytic treatments include chronic fluoxetine (100 µg/L for 2 weeks), chronic ethanol (0.3% vol/vol for 1 week), chronic morphine (1.5 mg/L for 2 weeks) and acute nicotine (10 mg/L for 5 min). Statistically significant differences from matched controls (p<0.05, U-test) are represented by solid arrows (empty arrows denote trends; p = 0.05–0.085, U-test): up – increase, down – decrease; empty fields indicate no significant effects, n/a – data not available. …”

cPLA2α-/- sympathetic neurons exhibit increased membrane excitability and loss of N-Type Ca2+ current inhibition by M1 muscarinic recept... by Liwang Liu (424650)

    Published 2018
“…To determine cPLA2α’s functional importance more globally, we examined action potential firing of cPLA2α+/+ and cPLA2α-/- SCG neurons, and found decreased latency to first firing and interspike interval resulting in a doubling of firing frequency in cPLA2α-/- neurons. …”

    Published 2010
“…The green lines at t = 20000 mark the time of stresses, which are (A) temperature increase, (B) 3 fold decrease of the base birth rate (<i>b</i>0) (stationary phase), and (C) 10 fold drop of the optimal total concentration (<i>C</i>0) of all proteins (starvation). …”

DYRK2 Negatively Regulates Cardiomyocyte Growth by Mediating Repressor Function of GSK-3β on eIF2Bε by Celine S. Weiss (453817)

    Published 2013
“…</p><p>Results</p><p>(1) Under baseline conditions eIF2Bε transgenic mice showed no difference in cardiac phenotype compared to wild type, whereas in the mutant eIF2Bε-S535A an increase in LV/tibia length (7.5±0.4 mg/mm vs. 6.2±0.2 mg/mm, p<0.001) and cardiomyocyte cross sectional area (13004±570 vs. 10843±347 RU, p<0.01) was observed. (2) Cardiac overexpression of eIF2Bε did not change the response of the heart to pathologic stress induced by chronic isoproterenol treatment. (3) Cardiac overexpression of the eIF2Bε transgene was followed by overexpression of DYRK2 which is known to prime the inhibitory action of GSK-3β on eIF2Bε, while DYRK1A and GSK-3β itself were not increased. (4) In C57BL/6 mice after 48 h of isoproterenol-stimulation or aortic banding, eIF2Bε was increased and DYRK2 was concomitantly decreased. (5) In line with these in vivo findings, siRNA knockdown of DYRK2 in cultured cardiomyocytes resulted in decreased levels of p(S535)- eIF2Bε, (6) whereas adenoviral induced overexpression of DYRK2 was accompanied by clearly increased phosphorylation of eIF2Bε, indicating a coordinated response pattern (7) Adenoviral induced overexpression of DYRK2 leads to significantly reduced cardiomyocyte size and diminishes hypertrophic response to adrenergic stimulation.…”

Selective Loss of Early Differentiated, Highly Functional PD1high CD4 T Cells with HIV Progression by Robert M. Paris (237340)

    Published 2015
“…In line with an increased susceptibility to HIV infection, PD-1 expression in this CD4 T cell subset was associated with increased activation and expression of the HIV co-receptor, CCR5. Rather than exhaustion, this population produced more IFN-g, MIP1-a, IL-4, IL-10, and IL-17a compared to PD-1low EI CD4 T cells. …”
