Two-surgeon technique of parenchymal transection contributes to reduced transfusion rate in patients undergoing major hepatectomy
Published 2010“…This difference is because patients treated at such centers often present with large tumor size,8 underlying liver disease,9 and chemotherapy-associated hepatic toxicity.10 In an effort to reduce the need for blood transfusions in patients undergoing liver resection, we developed a 2-surgeon technique to optimize parenchymal transection.11 In our preliminary series,11 the combined use of saline-linked cautery and ultrasonic dissection was shown to be safe and to reduce blood loss, operation time, and time of inflow occlusion. …”

Surgical Strategies for Synchronous Colorectal Liver Metastases in 156 Consecutive Patients
Published 2015“…The main limitation of this strategy is that it can be offered only in selected patients with synchronous disease,5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and it is associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications when major liver resection is combined with resection of the primary tumor.11, 12 and 13 Recently, a “reverse strategy,” in which preoperative chemotherapy is followed by resection of the CLM and then by resection of the colorectal primary at a second operation, has been proposed for patients with advanced synchronous CLM, and in particular, for patients in whom the primary is located in the rectum.14 The rationale for the reverse strategy is 2-fold: primary-related complications (such as bleeding, obstruction, or perforation) are rare in patients with stage IV colorectal cancer receiving combination chemotherapy15 and 16 and treatment of the metastatic disease is not delayed by local therapy for the primary tumor (surgery, and in the case of rectal cancer, radiotherapy or radiochemotherapy) or by complications of surgical treatment of the primary tumor. …”

Effects of financial turmoil on financial integration and risk premia in emerging markets
Published 2016“…Our sample consists of monthly data for 12 emerging stock markets over the period 1988M3-2015M3. We find that while the financial integration of emerging stock markets has registered short-term reversals episodes in countries that have been exposed to national or/and regional financial crises, it has decreased in most of the emerging countries of our sample since the global crisis. …”

Total and segmental liver volume variations
Published 2015“…Liver volume is measured with CT before living-donor liver transplantation or major hepatic resection in patients with and without chronic liver disease.3., 4., 5., 6., 7., 8., 9. and 10. This reproducible, noninvasive procedure is necessary because significant interpatient variation is believed to exist in the relative contributions of the hepatic segments to TLV.11 CT volumetry accurately predicts TLV on the basis of body surface area or body weight,12 which may achieve the true goal of preoperative CT volumetry of the liver, that is to estimate the individual patient's hepatic metabolic demands after resection or transplantation.7 Complications associated with technical aspects of liver surgery are decreasing, and focus has concurrently shifted to analysis of postoperative complications after major hepatic resection and liver transplantation on the basis of liver remnant volume and graft volume.3., 4., 6., 7., 8. and 13. …”

A combined experimental and computational study of the effect of electron irradiation on the transport properties of aromatic and aliphatic molecular self-assemblies
Published 2022“…<p dir="ltr">Intermolecular cross-linking through electron irradiation is proven to be an effective tool to improve the mechanical and electronic properties of molecular self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), which is known to be a key player for material nanoarchitectonics. Here we study the effect of electron irradiation on the electronic transport properties of aromatic 5,5′-bis(mercaptomethyl)-2,2′-bipyridine (BPD; HS-CH2-(C5H3N)2-CH2-SH) and electron saturated 1-dodecanethiol (C12; CH3-(CH2)11-SH) molecules self-assembled on an Au (111) surface. …”
