Reply to Comments by Kakkar and Dahiya
Published 2014“…Initial reports describing the use of bedaquiline in patients with MDR-TB and extensively drug-resistant TB are promising.3,4 Fortunately, the World Health Organization (WHO) has recently issued an interim policy guidance recommending that bedaquiline may be added to a WHO-recommended regimen in adult patients with MDR-TB when an effective regimen containing 4 second-line drugs in addition to pyrazinamide cannot be designed, and when there is documented evidence of resistance to any fluoroquinolone in addition to multidrug resistance.5 Similarly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also issued provisional guidelines recommending that bedaquiline may be used for 24 weeks in adults with laboratory-confirmed pulmonary MDR-TB when an effective regimen cannot otherwise be provided; on a case-by-case basis in children, persons with HIV, pregnant women, persons with extrapulmonary MDR-TB, and patients with comorbidties when effective regimen cannot otherwise be provided; and on a case-by-case basis for durations longer than 24 weeks when an effective regimen cannot be provided.6 Both WHO and CDC emphasize the need for careful monitoring of patients on bedaquiline therapy for safety concerns.5,6 Until further data become available, the authors believe that patients who meet eligible criteria according to current guidelines may benefit from bedaquiline therapy with careful monitoring for potential side effects and drug interactions.…”

Subsarcolemmal cAMP signals monitored by cyclic nucleotide gated channels in hypertrophied cardiac myocytes
Published 2005“…In an attempt to address this question, 3 weeks-old rats were subjected to aortic coarctation (H) or sham operated (S). 5 weeks after surgery, the mass of the left ventricle to tibia length ratio was 59% increased in the H group compared to the S group while the right ventricle mass to tibia length ratio was unchanged, attesting compensated hypertrophy of the heart in H rats. …”

The promise of tirzepatide: A narrative review of metabolic benefits
Published 2025“…Moreover, tirzepatide exhibited favorable effects on glycemic control, with notable reductions in HbA1c levels ranging from 20.4 mmol/mol with the 5 mg dose to 28.2 mmol/mol with the 15 mg dose, following treatment durations lasting 40–52 weeks. Additionally, tirzepatide exerts a beneficial impact on lipid profile parameters, including reductions in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, while increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations. …”

Internet Searches for Medical Symptoms Before Seeking Information on 12-Step Addiction Treatment Programs: A Web-Search Log Analysis
Published 2019“…Second, we examined symptom queries preceding queries on the 12-step program at time lags of 0-7 days, 7-14 days, and 14-30 days, where the probability of asking about a medical symptom was greater in the 30-day time window preceding 12-step program information-seeking as compared to all previous times that the symptom was queried.…”

Diffusion tensor imaging with tractography in surgical resection of brainstem cavernous malformations: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Published 2023“…About 12.4% of patients achieved partial resection, 65.65% improved, 8.07% worsened, 25.04% showed no change, 3.59% experienced postoperative re-bleeding, and 0.87% died. The utilization of preoperative diffusion tensor imaging significantly increased the proportion of improved patients and decreased the proportion of worsened patients. …”

Decreased methylglyoxal-mediated protein glycation in the healthy aging mouse model of ectopic expression of UCP1 in skeletal muscle
Published 2023“…We investigated protein glycation and oxidative damage in skeletal muscle of mice with UCP1 expression under control of the human skeletal actin promoter (HSA-mUCP1) at age 12 weeks (young) and 70 weeks (aged). We found both young and aged HSA-mUCP1 mice had decreased advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) formed from MG, lysine-derived Nε(1-carboxyethyl)lysine (CEL) and arginine-derived hydroimidazolone, MG-H1, whereas protein glycation by glucose forming Nε-fructosyl-lysine (FL) was increased ca. 2-fold, compared to wildtype controls. …”
