Kefir induces cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis in HTLV-1-negative malignant T-lymphocytes by Rizk, Sandra

    Published 2011
“…The percent reduction in proliferation was very significant, and was dose-, and time-dependent. In both cell lines, kefir exhibited its antiproliferative effect by downregulating TGF-α and upregulating TGF-β1 mRNA expression. …”

Andrographolide pre-treatment enhances the anti-tumor activity of topotecan on acute myeloid leukemia cells in vitro by Rizk, Sandra

    Published 2016
“…The pro-apoptotic effect upon combination of topotecan with andrographolide was further observed using annexin V/PI staining; even though andrographolide alone did not alter cell survival, however, when applied to the cells prior to topotecan treatment, the number of apoptotic cells increased from 16% to 57%. …”

Characterization of the potency and mechanism of action of a novel dual-selective intermolecularly complemented version of Anthrax Lethal Toxin (PAU2R200A- PAL1I207R/FP59) in Acute... by Farhat, Mirna

    Published 2023
“…We showed evidence that PAU2R200A/FP59, from the IMC variant, induced a cytotoxic response that matched the pattern of IMC/FP59, as such indicating that uPA/uPAR is the rate limiting factor in the activation of IMC/FP59.In addition, staining for Annexin V/PI post IMC/FP59 treatment showed an increase in double positive cells indicating non-apoptotic cell death. …”

The Impact of Sporting Events on Air Pollution: An Empirical Examination of National Football League Games by Nicholas Watanabe (19450285)

    Published 2023
“…From this, multiple regression analysis was utilized to estimate whether the number of fans was related to changes in air pollution. (3) Results: The regression models found that Ozone and Nitrogen Dioxide levels increased as more individuals attended NFL games. Additional robustness checks and falsification tests suggest that the average NFL event results in an approximately two-percent increase in Ozone levels. (4) Conclusions: The findings from this study contribute to the literature by providing evidence that highly attended sporting events increase pollution levels in the areas near stadiums. …”

Targeting acute myeloid leukemia cells with novel photosensitive ruthenium-based metal-organic compounds. (c2015) by Azar, Daniel Fadi

    Published 2016
“…Furthermore, we have attempted to examine the photochemical potential of our metal-organic compound model by combining L-II and L-III in the same metal complex, thus generating four final complexes with differing net charges (from +2 to -4), and examining their activities on a panel of AML cell lines with or without exposure to blue light. Of the four final complexes Ru-II3, Ru-II2-III, Ru-II-III2 and Ru-III3, only Ru-II3 and Ru-II2-III have shown significant activity against all tested cell lines in the dark, whereas photo-activation against ML2 has shown a marked increase of potency of all four complexes, even those shown to be biologically inert in the dark, reaching IC50 values in the nM range. …”

Investigation of positive education implementation and its impact on students' wellbeing and academic self-efficacy in K-12 private schools in Dubai by KHREIBI, RIMA ABOU

    Published 2022
“…The findings revealed the following: 1) in recent years there has been increasing positive education implementation grounding in the recent international, national, local, and educational authority policies and initiatives. 2) absence of standardised local and school policy related to positive education implementation has led to the need for adaptability of positive education implementation across school. 3) there has been strong engagement of the internal school community (teachers, school leaders and students) with external school community (parents). 4) significant changes in the overall level DSWC indicators associated with social emotional wellbeing, life satisfaction, perseverance, feeling safe, and belonging to school. 5) insignificant changes associated with DSWC indicators associated with emotional regulation, happiness, optimism, academic self-concept, cognitive engagement, engagement (flow), peer belonging and school climate. 6) PASS assessment factors show increase in wellbeing, motivation and self-efficacy for regulation and decrease in academic self-efficacy. 7) significant increase in emotional, social wellbeing and academic self-efficacy among students due to positive education implementation as perceived by teachers, parents, and students.…”

ROS-Mediated Autophagic Death in Glioblastoma Cells Upon Treatment by Human Recombinant Arginase I (Co)- PEG5000 [HuArgI (Co)-PEG5000] by Abdel Khalek, Maya

    Published 2021
“…In this study, we examine the mechanism of HuArgI (Co)-PEG5000-induced cell death in both partially and completely auxotrophic GBM cell lines. Our results first showed a significant increase in HuArgI (Co)-PEG5000 treated cells for both U251 and A172 in autophagosome formation; suggesting activation of autophagy in response to arginine deprivation. …”
