ROS-Mediated Autophagic Death in Glioblastoma Cells Upon Treatment by Human Recombinant Arginase I (Co)- PEG5000 [HuArgI (Co)-PEG5000]
Published 2021“…In this study, we examine the mechanism of HuArgI (Co)-PEG5000-induced cell death in both partially and completely auxotrophic GBM cell lines. Our results first showed a significant increase in HuArgI (Co)-PEG5000 treated cells for both U251 and A172 in autophagosome formation; suggesting activation of autophagy in response to arginine deprivation. …”

Cytotoxicity of Arginine Deprivation to AML Cells is Mediated by Autophagy
Published 2020“…[HuArgI(Co)-PEG5000]-induced arginine deprivation led to significant and sustained activation of autophagy starting at 24 hours and lasting up to 120 hours following arginine deprivation in all cell lines. Inhibition of autophagy, using chloroquine, led to a significant decrease in cell cytotoxicity evident at 48 hours and up to 120 hours. …”

STIM1 signals through NFAT1 independently of Orai1 and SOCE to regulate breast cancer cell migration
Published 2023“…In contrast, Orai1-KO cells, which have similar levels of SOCE inhibition as STIM1-KO, migrate slower than the parental cell line. This shows that the enhanced migration phenotype of STIM1-KO cells is not due to the loss of Ca2+ entry through SOCE, rather it involves transcriptional remodeling as elucidated by RNA-seq analyses. …”

Effectiveness of Positron Emission Tomography for Predicting Chemotherapy Response in Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases
Published 2010“…For example, a few years ago an extrahepatic metastasis effectively eliminated surgical resection, but a combination of chemotherapeutic options and surgical techniques has expanded the indications for resection and increased the population of patients who may benefit.1,2 Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has increased the resectability rate by 11% to 37%.1 Unfortunately, greater than 80% of patients undergoing hepatic resection will have recurrences, mostly within the first 2 years.2 Nonetheless, the only hope for cure is resection, and prior surgical dogma based on the number of lesions, size of the tumor-free resection margin, and presence of resectable extrahepatic disease must be questioned.3- 5 The current standard approach to surgical planning is contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for specific tumor characteristics or contraindications to CT.6 Several series showed that focal extrahepatic disease, an isolated pulmonary lesion, can be safely resected, with 5-year survival rates of 29% to 58%.7,8 In 1 series,7 17 of 30 patients required 3 or more resections. …”

Associating learning technology to sustain the environment through green mobile applications
Published 2019“…With “quality education” a major issue for the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, it is a must that we loop together the “quality education” with education per se. It is imperative that we engage the youth in attaining this objective, for it is not enough that we empower them with the tools, we must encourage them to look at the current issues outside the box, through a worldwide view, where the focus nowadays is on the environment, be it in reducing fuel usage, decreasing air and water pollution, and recycling, in brief, being environment friendly. …”
