Sammanfattning:
Data Associated with Crawford et al. High adult mortality of African penguins in South Africa after 2004 was likely caused by starvation published in Ostrich, https://doi.org/10.2989/00306525.2025.2568382. Numbers of pairs breeding (thousand pairs), numbers of individuals moulting (from split years 1995/96 to 2015/16) and adult survival of African penguins Spheniscus demersus (from split years 1994/95 to 2011/12) at Dassen and Robben Islands, Western Cape, South Africa. The Forage Availability Index (FAI) is derivied from sardine and anchovy in the diet of Cape gannets Morus capensus by Crawford et al. 2019, ICES J Mar Sci 76: 1344–1352 https://doi.org/10.1093/icesjms/fsz081. Adult survival rates are from Sherley et al. 2014, Ibis 156: 716–728 https://doi.org/10.1111/ibi.12189. Also shown are, the calculated DeltaM values at each island for 2004 to 2011 based on equation 1 in the text; the calculated DeltaD values at each island for 2004 to 2011 based on equation 2 in the text; and calculated proportion of missing moulters (ProportionMM) at each island (assuming that all breeders moult at their 'home' island) based on equation 3 in the text.
